Advance Decisions, previously known as Living Wills, allow you to set out how you would like to be treated and cared for if you are unable to communicate those wishes at some point in the future.
Advance Decisions are primarily used to detail treatments you would not wish to have in certain circumstances. This can include treatments that would potentially keep you alive, known as life-sustaining treatment.
You can keep a copy of the Advance Decision with your medical records.
Health and Welfare LPAs provide an alternative option to Advance Decisions and allow you to nominate specific individuals to make decisions on your behalf for a wide range of health and welfare issues.
